Taste and aromas
Its colour is purple with brick red hues. On the nose it has an intense aroma of chocolate, with notes of ripe cherry and raspberry and a finish of smoky oak vanilla. On the palate it is velvety, full bodied, with round, elegant tannins and a long finish. It can age for many years.
The Agiorgitiko grape
Agiorgitiko is a red Greek grape often called multidynamic, because it can make a wide range of wine styles. It is grown in many parts of the Peloponnese and is one of the varieties allowed in red PGI Peloponnese wines.
Its wines made for long ageing mature in oak barrels and have a firm tannic structure, deep colour and complex aromas of red fruit, sweet spices and chocolate.
Our vineyard in Skotini
Our Agiorgitiko Cava comes from our own 10 stremma vineyard (about one hectare) at the Tsapounia site, on the southeastern slopes of Mount Skiathis. We planted it in 1998, at 820 metres, in soil of crushed sandstone with dark brown humus.
It is planted at 600 vines per stremma and yields about 450 kilos per stremma. The Agiorgitiko is harvested in early October.
Winemaking and ageing
After the harvest the grapes go through three days of cold maceration at 10 degrees Celsius, followed by 24 days of skin contact, with short pump overs during the first days.
The wine then ages for 36 months in brand new oak barrels, in the underground ageing room of our winery, five metres below ground, and for another 12 months in the bottle before it reaches you.
Serving and food pairing
Serve it at 18 degrees Celsius. It goes with game, aged cheeses such as parmesan or smoked cheese, and dishes with red sauces.
It is excellent with roast suckling pig, grilled steaks and grilled beef liver, as well as with prosciutto, smoked cured meats and 75% dark chocolate.

From the vineyard to the bottle
Our winery was founded by Vasileios Magavalis in 1998 and is still a family business. It is built on several levels, so the must moves by natural flow, without the help of machines. We have our own laboratory, where we test our wines, including microbiological analyses, and our own bottling line.
Taste it at the winery
